Well I finally was able to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.boy is ML a different animal.LOL Slight learning curve wit all the doodads but in SL I was able to access my laptop with ftp client, now that the laptop is dead I am using my desktop Mac Pro early 2008 running ML. I can not use Filezilla to access my desktop at all.
How to enable ftp server on Mac OS X 10.8 Apple Mac OS X Lion and Mountain Lion don't come with a button that enables the ftp server by only a click, but that still doesn't mean the ftp server isn't included. Let's see how to enable it.
I thought all I had to do was change the ip (we are on a private router for our house only) and it will not allow it. I have turned filesharing on for the mac, but no longer see in there the option to use ftp, I have it set to go directly to Volumes, since it is the two externals I need to access.

What do I need to do? Well either I am a dunce or the computers are ruling. I remember now why we did not set up a home network for our computers.the pc's refuse to 'see' the mac, any mac I have had. The only way to get things from the mac to the pc was with FTP, antiquated as it may seem that was the only way. Network on pc refuses to see the mac at all, it sees itself and my daughter pc's but no mac. I may need to do a try with ethernet cause I don't think usb to usb will work.
Fortunately the only thing I need to move to the pc are ites for Poser's runtime.which is misbehavig so I will need to reinstall my external runtimes for Poser to make them behave. Love new comps (even if it is an older model tis new to me) but hate the reinstalling. Looking forward to everything working well so I can then clone it to a new HD for safe keeping. I also wish I had the snow leopard cd/dvd and mountain lion.
Or do you think that may be the problem. I upgraded to mountain lion via apple store then last night realizeds it said lion was supposed to have been installed. I only had snow leopard. Apple Footer. FileZilla is a free, open source FTP client. It supports FTP, SFTP, and FTPS (FTP over SSL/TLS). Filezilla runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. FileZilla was started as a computer science class project in the second week of January 2001 by Tim Kosse and two classmates.
Before they started to write the code, they discussed on which licence they should release the code. They decided to make FileZilla an open-source project, because there were already many FTP clients available and they didn't think that they would sell even one copy if they made FileZilla commercial. The main features are the site manager, message log, file and folder view, and the transfer queue. The site manager allows a user to create a list of FTP sites along with their connection data, such as the port number to use, the protocol to use, and whether to use anonymous or normal logon. For normal logon, the username is saved and optionally the password. The message log is displayed along the top of the window.
It displays the console-type output showing the commands sent by FileZilla and the remote server's responses. The file and folder view, displayed under the message log, provides a graphical interface for FTP. Users can navigate folders and view and alter their contents on both the local and remote machines using an Explorer-style tree interface.
Users can drag and drop files between the local and remote computers. The transfer queue, displayed along the bottom of the window, shows the real-time status of each queued or active file transfer. FileZilla Server is another product. It is an FTP server supported by the same project. It supports FTP and FTP over SSL/TLS.
